words to him before I left, I then bore a short but faithful testimony to him. When I had done, he told me he wanted to say a word or two to me. Said he: "When you get outside of my door, don't you never enter it again. I want nothing to do with you or your tracts. I don't want to hear anything about your doctrines. When you get outside, shake off the dust of your feet as a testimony against me. I will stand for myself, and you for yourself." I replied: "When we both stand before the bar of God, then you will know whether I have spoken the truth, or whether I have lied unto you." I went outside of the door and complied with his request. Got back to Bro. Alford's. Found him preparing to go to the water. He was taken sick, and got worse. I administered to him, but he was not much better. He went to bed, therefore, I did not rebaptize them then. Went to bed about 10 P.M. About 11.30 P.M. Sister Alford informed me he was worse. I got up and administered to him again. I felt he would get better. In the morning I learned that his pains left him about 2 A.M., and he was better, but weak.
June 19, 1857.
Went to Bro. Alford in his bedroom. Better but weak. I laid my hands upon him, and asked the Lord to bless him and raise him up. I told him he would get better, and rise up and rejoice. Traveled to Wincanton. Found Sister Bailey very ill. She had been wishing for me some time. I administered to her, and prayed my Father in Heaven to bless her with health and strength, and sealed the blessing upon her. Went to Barnet Giles's with some number of the "Journal of Doctrines". Mrs. Giles took them, but forbid my ever entering their door again, as she did not want to see us. She had had enough of me. Hereafter, I was to leave the Journal at John Ware's at Cherryton. Went to Holton, thence to Cherryton, with Stars and Journal for Bros. Ware and Rodd. Did not see either of them. Sister Ware was greatly annoyed at my hard-heartedness, saying that the Elders were getting worse and worse, and I was not a reasonable man, but I don't know what reason I had given her for such a charge. Traveled through that place in the afternoon trying to sell some tracts. Sold 1. Returned to Holton, then to Maperton, just in time to escape a heavy storm. Wrote to Bro. Durnford, in Whales, sending him his Certificate of Membership. Slept at Bro. Durnford's.
