in conversation with Pastor N and Bro. & Sis. Alford.
June 9, 1857.
Spent the morning at Bro. Alford's. Started for Marnhull. On the way, met with Barnet Giles, who manifested a dreadful spirit, speaking against the officers of the Church etc. I rebuked him for such conduct. Pastor N. spoke to him a little, and then we left him. On arriving at Marnhull, we held meeting. I spoke a little, and Pastor N. preached. A few strangers present. Had a pretty good time, and slept at sister Warren's.
June 10, 1857.
Traveled to Sherborne, visiting the saints at Stourton Caundle on our way. Held a meeting at Sister Burnett's. Pastor N. preached. Had a good time. Slept at sister Burnett's.
June 11, 1857.
Traveled to Maperton. Took dinner at Sis. Durnford's. Went to Upton Noble. Held meeting at Bro. Rawlings's. Pastor N. preached, and I bore testimony. The saints felt well. Went to Batcomb, and slept at sister Rawlings's.
June 12, 1857.
Visited sister Warr at Chellynch. In the afternoon visited with a cousin of mine at Stoke Lane. Found prejudice there against the great Latter-day work. I had left tracts there on a former visit, and they had been stirring the folks up. Went to Soho. Found there would be no meeting there. Pastor N. started for Frome. I went with him some distance, to show him the right road. Returned to Soho. Did a little Church business with Bro. Warr. Started at about 8 P.M. for Upton Noble, a distance of about 8 miles, arriving at 10 P.M. Slept at Bor. Rawlings's.
June 13, 1857.
Traveled to Sherborne, calling at Maperton, and arriving at Sherborne with blistered feet, having traveled much all the week. Spent an hour or two reading to some of the saints, and retires to rest.
June 14, 1857.
Spent the morning writing, and conversing with some saints who visited me. Held meeting in the afternoon. Instructed the saints in regard to the reformation now going on, and exhorted them to be faithful. In the evening went to visit a sister by the name of Mildwater, whom I had not seen before. She lived 3 miles from Sherborne.
