Spent some time in writing and church business. Went to Cherryton, and visited Bro. & Sis. Ware. Found the spirit of apostacy strong in them. Talked to them for some time, but they seemed determined not to attend to their duties, nor renew their covenants. Went to Holton, and visited sisters Thomas and Smart. Found them well, and rejoicing in the work of the Lord. Thence to Maperton. Found Bro. Durnford and family feeling well. Stayed all night with them.

Traveled to Upton Noble, arriving there about 1 P.M. Held meeting at Bro. Rawlings's in the afternoon. Labored to induce the saints to renew their covenants. All promised to do so, but Bro. Rawlings. He gave his reasons why he declined to do so, which, really, were no reason at all. Went to Manstrow in company with Bro. Rawlings, and Bro. Ware, who had come from Leigh-on-mendip. Did not preach there as I had previously intended. Returned to Upton Noble, and slept at Bro. Rawlings's.

May 25, 1857.
Traveled to Bruton. Tried to see Bro. Birch, but could not. I then went to North Bruham, and visited Bro. & Sis. Rolls. In the afternoon I went to South Bruham. Sold 2 tracts there. Returned to N. Bruham and spent the evening instructing Bro. & Sis. Rolls. Slept at their house.

Went to Upton Noble. Wrote a letter. Went to Batcomb, then to Chillnish. Visited the Sisters Warr. Sister Elize felt well, but her daughter, Emma, without any inclination to renew her covenant. I talked to her, showed her the position she would be in if she did not do so. Left her feeling a little better. Traveled to Stoke to visit a cousin whom I has not seen for many years. He was not at home. Saw his wife and heer mother, to whom I preached the gospel, and with whom I left some tracts. Went to Soho. Did a little church business with Bro. Justinian Warr. Cheered him up a little. Slept at Mr. Berryman's at Coleford.
